About the project
A two-phased project, initially delivered for Manchester City Council for the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, the stadium contained 38,000 seats, running track and athletics infield facilities. Following the Commonwealth Games, the second phase of the project was to transform the stadium into a Football Stadium for Manchester City Football Club. This involved the addition of 10,000 seats bringing the total capacity to 48,000 which was achieved by the excavation of the third tier of seating and completion of the permanent North Stand which was temporary for the Commonwealth Games.
